Kiltale 2-16 Kildalkey 1-13
Kildalkey's third string travelled to Longwood to take on Kiltale's second team in the first round of the JHC looking for a good start but came up against a stronger fitter Kiltale team.
Both teams fielded a few club stalwarts who battled against each other at senior level over the past 15 to 20 years but both also had a few young up and coming lads starting out on their career.
Kildalkey needed a strong start but it didn’t materialise as Kiltale stormed into the game and led by 0-11 to 0-3 at one point but bit by bit Kildalkey started to get back into it and with points from young Conor Barnwell from play and frees and 2 from Franco Doran they found themselves only 4 points down at the break 0-11 to 0-7.
Good defensive work by Paul Fagan Martin Doran Ross Flynn and Evan Geoeghan helped the cause no end even though they were under serious pressure.
A pointed free from Barnwell got them closer and an opportunist goal from Stephen Murray had them level Ross Flynn and Luke o Halloran traded scores but the concession of 2 more frees pushed Kiltale on again and a goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of the blues
Barnwell hit 2 more frees pushed for his team but a mistake in the defence let in kiltale for another goal
Franco Doran hit his third point for Kildalkey but Kiltale finished strong to get the last couple of points to seal the win
