Navan O’Mahony’s 2-13 Kilmessan 3-26
O’Mahony’s lost out to a strong Kilmessan side in Round 2 of the SHC, played in St Lomans Park Trim on Thursday evening.
O’Mahony’s were quick off the mark to score, with Cormac Keyes finding the net within the first twenty seconds. Kilmessan were quick to respond with a point at the town end of the pitch and by the seven minute mark had equalised. After an eighth minute goal and a further four points, they held a 1-07 to 1-0 lead after fourteen minutes.
Jack Walsh scored the first point for his side with a free. Kilmessan also kept the scoreboard ticking over and a Walsh point from play after 21 minutes left eight in it. Moments later, it took an impressive hook from Kilmessan to prevent a Sean McDermott shot on goal. Late points came for Tom Condon and Walsh in the first half.

A free from Walsh after a foul on Condon was the first score of the second. While Kilmessan were also adding scores, the same two players raised further white flags.
With Kilmessan having a good foothold in the game, their lead was extended with a goal from a rebound following an impressive save from John Foley. The next score came from Jack Flynn who made a gut-bursting run through the middle of the field before finishing.
With five minutes remaining, McDermott found the net. In the final stages, another few scoring opportunities went astray with some narrowly missed opportunities and some good defensive play from the opposition.
O’Mahony’s last score of the game came from a Walsh free while Kilmessan added a third goal towards the end, again after Foley had blocked the initial effort.
