St Ultans 2-15 Carnaross 1-10
St Ultans got off to the dream start when midfielder Lee Hennessy won the throw in, a quick ball inside led to Alex Casserly picking up the first score of the game. The Ultans kept the pressure on with a further score from play from Tom Brennan followed by the first green flag of the night courtesy of the captain Paidin Boggins. Carnaross then got their first score of the night but this was quickly cancelled out with another point each from Casserly and Brennan.
Carnaross started to grow into the game scoring three points on the bounce leaving just a goal between the sides. The Ultans then hit a purple patch of their own with scores coming from Conor Smyth, Brennan, Casserly and Boggins followed by a beautiful effort off the deck by Keith Hennessey. The second green flag of the night was then raised when Mark Allen found the back of the net despite the best efforts of the Carnaross keeper leaving ten points between the sides.
Ultans kept applying the pressure with a beautiful score off the left from the evergreen Gearoid Rennicks. Carnaross again responded with two points. The second half saw further scores from Martin Dolan and two from Brennan, which insured Ultans kept their advantage. More chances came for the Ultans when Lee Hennesy burst through the Carnaross defence but choose wisely to take the point and keep the scoreboard ticking over.
To the credit of Carnaross they never stopped applying pressure on the Ultans and added 1-3 to their tally after a fine two pointer and a well taken penalty. Charlie O’ Brien finished up the scoring for the night when firing over from close range leaving the final score at 2-15 to 1-10.
Special mention and thanks to Drumbaragh GFC who had the pitch and facilities in perfect condition for the final.
