Kildalkey 2-24 Longwood 1-11
Kildalkey got their Senior Hurling Championship campaign off to a winning start with this comfortable win over Longwood at Lomans Park Trim.
Sean Cole got the scoreboard working for Longwood and by the 10th minute the sides were level, 0-3 each. Kildalkey began to take control and with Paddy Conneely and Naill McNally to the fore they went in at the break 2-11 to 0-5 in front. McNally’s first goal arrived midway through the half after good work from Conor Fitzgerald and his second came just before the break leaving the men in white with a mountain to climb.
A point from Anthony Healy and a Kevin Heagney goal gave Longwood some hope in the early stages of the second half but the recently crowned Division 1 League winners kept the scorboard working and ran out comfortable winners in the end.
In an otherwise very sporting game tempers flared with ten minutes remaining and referee Bernard Heaney issued red cards to Sean Cole and Cian Colhoun.
Next up for the winners are neighbours Clann na nGael in Trim while Longwood take on Kiltale at Dunganny
