Gaeil Colmcille's five game winning streak came to an end on Saturday evening at the hands of Ratoath whose four second half goals put any doubt on the scoreboard at the end of the game.
The Gaeils rushed into a 0-07 to 0-02 lead with some excellent two pointers coming from Barry Farrelly and Andrew Gormley. Seamus Mattimoe, Evan Sheridan and Ryan Farnham pointed also and Kells looked comfortable. Within a blink of an eye Ratoath were ahead after two 2-pointers of their own either side of one pointers saw Ratoath lead 0-08 to 0-07.
Kells managed two more points before the break with Sheridan and Gormley striking over but three from Ratoath meant the visitors to Grangegodden went in one point ahead at the break.
Andrew Gormley levelled things up at 0-10 each early on at the second half but the games opening goal fell to the Ratoath side and they led 1-10 to 0-10. By the 51st minute, Ratoath blitzed Gaeil Colmcille and a further two goals was matched by two points and after being level at 33 minutes, Ratoath now led 3-12 to 0-10.
Kells never laid down and a Mattimoe point was followed by a point from substitute Liam Barry and Oisin Reilly pointed after his initial goal chance was blocked. When Brian Hanlon hit a two pointer there was only seven between the sides but a fourth goal killed off any chance of a comeback and Ratoath who already had a semi-final to look forward to closed out the game.
