Seneschalstown 0-11 St. Colmcille’s 0-17
Seneschalstown’s relegation to Division 2 of the Football Leagues for 2026 was confirmed in Piltown on Saturday evening when going down to St. Colmcille’s by six points in what was also a dress rehearsal for the upcoming Championship opener in August.
Backed by the wind in the opening Seneschalstown will have been disappointed to not have put a bigger score in the board. They did start brightly, despite conceding the opening score after three minutes Will Finegan, Ronan Conneely and a Robbie Finnegan free had them 0-03 to 0-01 ahead after 13 minutes.
The home side kicked their second but another Finnegan free in the 18th minute restored the two point advantage. However, the Cilles’ were about to enjoy a purple patch kicking five in a row into the breeze including a two point free which put them into lead once more before a Robbie Finnegan free closed out a disappointing half for Seneschalstown as they trailed by three at the interval.
Seneschalstown’s performance after the break was improved and there was certainly more bite about them. Half-time substitute Eoin Finnegan immediately reduced the gap to two but St. Colmcille’s, now backed by the elements, made good use of the two point arc over the course of the second half kicking a number of them to keep Seneschalstown at arms length.
The trio of Finnegans – Eoin, Éamon and Robbie kept Seneschalstown’s score ticking over during the second period but without scoring a goal Seneschalstown were not able to get close enough to prevent demotion to the second tier of League football for 2026.
Seneschalstown will now look to the Championship opener against the same opposition on Saturday August 2nd in Stamullen at 4pm.
