Seneschalstown's Joey Moore

Seneschalstown 0-07 St. Peter’s, Dunboyne 1-18

Seneschalstown concluded the round robin phase of the Tommy Dowd Oil Division 5 football League with a disappointing defeat to runaway table toppers St. Peter’s, Dunboyne at a damp Fr. Tully Park on Friday evening. After two wins on the trot Seneschalstown were hoping to make it three on the bounce which would also would have secured safety in at least 9th place in the table.

They got off to a good start with centre back Mattie Cowley pointing in the opening seconds after Seneschalstown won the throw-in. However, Dunboyne shut down any early momentum with four points in a row by the 12th minute to establish an early lead.

Joey Moore kicked Seneschalstown’s second point of the hour in the 13th minute with help from the left hand upright, before two scores in a 60 second spell hard the house side level.   Firstly Moore kicked a close range free and then Seán Davis found space inside the two point arc and he made no mistake with his shot.

St. Peter’s weren’t for hanging around though and kicked two further points to back in front and they could have greatly added to that when they were awarded a penalty. Seneschalstown were relieved though to see the spot kick go wide of James Meade’s upright. Another free from Joey Moore reduced the deficit after an off the ball foul but that was as good as it got for the hosts on the evening. The visitors went in at the interval three to the good at 0-08 to 0-05 after kicking the last two scores of the half and after the restart they took complete control on the scoreboard.

A goal in the 37th minute totally knocked the stuffing out of the Seneschalstown challenge and they went onto add a further ten points with Seneschalstown’s only score in the second period being a two point effort from Seán Davis as the clock ticked towards the 59th minute.

Seneschasltown will be disappointed with the this game ran away from them in the second half but they do have one have one further shot at survival against Cortown next week in the Relegation Play-Off. When the sides met in late May a goal for Cortown in injury time earned them a narrow so another close encounter will be anticipated as they battle it out for survival in Division 5 for 2026.
