St. Vincent’s 0-14 Meath Hill 0-11

Meath Hill made the journey to Ardcath for a crucial Round 10 league clash against St. Vincent’s, with both sides desperate for a win as the league heads toward its conclusion.

The opening stages were cagey, with both teams creating chances but failing to make them count. It was St. Vincent’s who eventually settled, finding their range with an early two-pointer before adding two more scores from play. Meath Hill struggled to break through a compact Vincent’s defence and were punished again, falling six points behind as errors crept into their play. Ciaran Farrelly eventually got Meath Hill off the mark after 20 minutes, but the home side remained in control, extending their lead to seven. Late points from Pierce McGrath and Jack Slavin offered a flicker of hope for Meath Hill before the break.

Half-time: St. Vincent’s 0-08 Meath Hill 0-03

Meath Hill came out with more intent in the second half, with James Mooney registering an early point. Substitute Gary Breslin made an immediate impact, narrowly missing a goal chance before Vincent’s responded with a point at the other end. Breslin then found his rhythm, landing a fine point over the shoulder followed by two frees to bring Meath Hill within two. Dominic Yorke added another from a placed ball to leave just one between the teams. However, St. Vincent’s responded with a free of their own and a well-taken fisted effort to stretch the gap again.

Breslin wasn’t done, kicking a two-point effort to level the sides heading into the final minutes. But it was St. Vincent’s who finished stronger, slotting the final two points of the match to secure a narrow but deserved win.

Despite a spirited second-half comeback, Meath Hill fell just short. They’ll look to bounce back in their final league outing this Saturday at home to Moynalvey at 4pm.
