HL Div 1: Kildalkey thump Killyon by 23 points to set up final date with Kiltale

Kildalkey's Paddy Conneely

Kildalkey 5-22

Killyon 1-11

The final round of games in Division 1 of the Hurling league saw Kildalkey take on Killyon at home on Saturday evening in sunny conditions.

This was a repeat of the Brendan Davis cup final which Kilyon won but there was to be no repeat on Saturday as the Village led all the way and finished out comprehensive winners this time around.

Goals from Niall McNally, Evan Fitzgerald, James Cully and Paddy Conneely had the home side leading by 4-10 to 1-7 at half time with Conneely, James and Mattie Cully, Evan Fitzgerald, Niall McNally and Matt Rickard getting the points.

They didn’t let up in the second half either and another goal from McNally put the game beyond doubt as they tagged on another string of points thanks to Luke Rickard, Conneely, Fitzgerald, McNally, Cully and Brin Kelly to win out on the day by 5-22 to 1-11.

With all games being on at the same time, Kildalkey needed other results to go their way in order to make a final which seemed unlikely but news filtered through that Ratoath defeated Kilmessan, who were ahead of Kildalkey at the start by 1 point, meant Kildalkey jumped ahead of them by 1 point to reach the league final against unbeaten Kiltale next Wednesday night.
