Moynalty 0-17 St Ultan’s 0-17
St Ultan’s staged a dramatic late comeback, scoring two injury-time points to snatch victory from Moynalty in their Division 4 league clash on Tuesday evening in Moynalty.
This was a cracking contest, with both sides swapping the lead on different occasions. St Ultan’s made the brighter start, racing into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead early on. However, Moynalty’s Pauric O'Connor quickly responded with two well-taken scores, as his side’s direct approach began to pay dividends. O’Connor found pockets of space and duly emerged as Moynalty’s main attacking threat. St Ultan’s replied with another fine point before Kian Lynch got on the scoreboard with his first of the evening. Points from O’Connor, Jude Gilsenan, and Cathal Donaghue followed, sandwiched between two more scores for the visitors, as the game really began to heat up. Both defenses were tested, but stood strong, adding to the intensity of the contest. Dylan Farrelly’s individual battle with St Ultan’s player Ruairi Buchanan was crucial for Moynalty, as the Ultan’s player threatened to swing the game in his side’s favour. Adam Reilly did a solid job marshalling the center of the pitch, while Joey Gilsenan and John Brogan impressed on the half-back line, frequently driving forward and creating chances for Kian Lynch, Jude Gilsenan, and Paul Lynch. John Brogan added another fine point before St Ultan’s responded late in the half to leave the score finely poised at the break.
Moynalty 0-08 St Ultans 0-10
Moynalty resumed strongly, with Ollie Sheridan kicking things off early in the second half. Kian Lynch followed up with his second, a delightful effort cutting in from the right wing. St Ultan’s, though, responded swiftly, and capitalised on two Moynalty defensive errors to rack up three unanswered points, creating a bit of daylight for the first time. Changes followed, with Paddy Byrne and Bryan McCormack introduced for Kian Lynch and Cathal Donaghue after both put in solid shifts in the half-forward line. Moynalty dug deep, however, with Niall O'Connor, Liam Brogan, and Paddy Byrne beginning to win key possession battles around the middle. Momentum swung back in the home side’s favour. Ollie Sheridan added another fine score, before Pauric and Niall O'Connor pointed to leave the minimum between the sides. Sheridan then had a chance to put Moynalty ahead, but his shot drifted narrowly wide. With excitement building from both set of supporters, Paul Lynch was fouled just outside the arc, and Johnny Lynch confidently stepped up to convert and edge Moynalty in front. Bryan McCormack added another soon after, and Moynalty looked set for victory — but St Ultan’s had other ideas. Deep into injury time, the visitors worked two excellent scores to level the game. Referee Adrian Corcoran, who had a good game throughout, blew the final whistle shortly after, bringing a thrilling contest to a close.
