Dunshaughlin 3-12 Cortown 0-10

Cortown slumped to yet another defeat and a desperately poor performance to match on Tuesday evening in Dunshaughlin.

2-1 inside the opening 5 minute effectively had the home team heading firmly towards the winners enclosure before Cortown had even broken from the stalls. The deadly duo of Ciaran Sheridan and Tommy Kinsella with the black and amber majors.

A Colm McGearty two point free before a Jake Coyne free did offer some encouragement for a shell-shocked Cortown.

Then Brían Smith was denied from point blank range before Dunshaughlin ran in their third goal moments later to make it 3-1 to 0-3 after 10.

Elliot Reilly curled over to reduce the arrears to six after 15 minutes but Cathal McCormack reestablished the 7 point buffer shortly after.

A quickfire from Sheridan had the hosts a clear three goals clear just inside the 20 minute mark. Veteran Stephen Fitzmaurice curled over a free following a foul on Smith on the 20 metre line for Cortown to keep the visitors just about interested.

Dunshaughlin opened back up the 10 point lead at the break, 3-6 to 0-5 with Sheridan continuing his scoring spree with an early two point free in the second but Reilly immediately responded to leave it 3-8 to 0-6.

Reilly got his third of the evening following good industrious play from Charlie Smith but a free and another McCormack point made it 12 and an unassailable lead with less than 20 left.

A soft red card for Brían Smith compounded things for Cortown despite Ciaran Keating plucking off a fine score immediately after. Dunshaughlin who were coasting, were awarded a penalty but McGearty pulled off a fine save from McCormack to deny the home side a fourth.

Coyne and Anthony Boyle converted a couple of frees to bring it back 10 but a further score from Dunshaughlin handed them a 11 point win and safety for another year. Cortown remain plunged in Relegation trouble with two games left to play.
