Gaelscoil Éanna 4-10 Carnaross N.S. 3-11 after extra time
Gaelscoil Éanna made history in the last game of seven on Friday at the Trim venue. It was their first time entering a hurling team in the Cumann na mBunscol and they claimed victory after extra time in another thrilling final.
Peter Barrett was outstanding for Carnaross who lost this final last year to Killyon. The midfielder accounted for 2-8 of his teams total. The team in Maroon and Gold dominated the first half and led 2-7 to 1-3 at the break. With five minutes remaining Carnaross still had a four point advantage but a point from Seán Mac Ruairi and a Eoghan Tóibín goal left it all square and two periods of extra time were required.
A Joseph Kirk goal and another Barrett point gave Carnaross a 3-11 to 3-8 lead at the end of the first five minutes. The second period belonged to Mac Ruairi. Holding the ‘Ross’ scoreless the Gaelscoil Éanna captain hit 1-2 to break Carnaross hearts once again and make history for his school.
