FL Div 4: Poor start costs Nobber

June 10, 2025

Nobber's Brian Farrell

Nobber 1 – 14 (17) St Colmcille’s 2 – 17 (23)

Nobber travelled the long journey across the county to Pilltown to face East Meath side St Colmcille’s in their Division 4, Round 8 encounter on Sunday afternoon last.

The Cilles were out of the starting blocks the quickest and, in the opening 10 minutes, held a healthy seven-point lead. Niall Farrell with the score for the black and ambers. As the game progressed, Nobber gradually came more into it with a white flag raised by corner forward Sean Meade, another point from Farrell, and a classy goal taken by sharpshooter Meade.

Half-time score – Nobber 1 – 3 (6) St Colmcille’s 2 – 9 (15)

The Deesiders faced an uphill task in the second half but had the advantage of having the breeze with them. Dale Larkin slotted over a free and kicked an impressive two-pointer outside the arc. The Nobber defence was kept busy, and the Cilles held a healthy lead throughout. Wing forward Colin Clarke and midfielder Mark Condra showed a never-say-die spirit and kept fighting for the North Meath men. Paul Meade was creative in setting up attacks that sometimes proved difficult for Derek Walsh’s charges to convert scores. However, Sean Meade was a constant threat, adding on some impressive points along with the youthful Conor Owens.

The closest Nobber got to Cilles in the second period was four points at one stage, giving their supporters a glimmer of hope. However, the sky blue of the East Meath side pushed on in the final minutes to win by six points in the end.

Nobber will look to regroup and learn from this game with the next round coming around quickly against intermediate opposition.

Next up for Nobber is a home fixture against Longwood on Tuesday, June 17 at 8 PM.
