Meath clubs Wolfe Tones and Clann na nGael were crowned Comórtas Peil na Gaeltachta senior and junior men's football champions respectively yesterday.
Over 30 clubs (eight senior male, 10 junior male, two senior ladies and 12 junior ladies) took part in the annual competition which was played at five venues - Athboy, Dunderry, Cortown, Kilberry and Ráth Chairn - across the Royal County over the June Bank Holiday weekend.
Ráth Chairn hosted the finals which saw an Oisín Martin-inspired Wolfe Tones run out 2-18 to 3-12 winners over An Tearmann from Donegal in the senior decider, while host club Clann na nGael powered to a 2-21 to 0-15 victory over another Donegal side, Naomh Náille, in the junior final.
Meanwhile, Galway's Baile Chláir na Gaillimhe retained their senior ladies crown thanks to a 6-13 to 4-6 victory over Donegal's An Clochán Liath in the first of yesterday's finals, while another Galway outfit, Naomh Anna Leitir Móir, edged out Gaeil Fhánada of Donegal in the junior final, which was played on Sunday.
