Dunderry 0-22 Kildalkey 1-16
Dunderry welcomed Kildalkey on Friday evening and the place was spic and span - not just for our opponents but for the 3 games on Saturday as part of Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta 2025.
Mark Leavy was first on the board with a point after a clever lay off from Niall Darcy. The blues responded with a free and a point from play. A well struck side line was pulled from the sky by Nolan and he tapped over from 14yds. Níall picked out Niall to edge the hosts ahead. It was point for point with neither side asserting thier dominance and there was never more than two points between the sides. A point from Rian Fay from the side line and one from Kelly were all we managed from play but Evan Nolan was in top form on the frees, nailing five between the posts to leave it 11 a piece at the interval.
The physio bags were restocked and there came a few strong words from the man in the middle prior to commencement of round two. It was 12 all, 13 all, 14 all and 15 all until Tommy Leavys warriors went ahead by five unanswered points. First up was a Nolan free. Then Liam Dempsey gathered , off loaded to Barron who unselfishly picked out Darcy and he pointed with ease. Both midfielders were next up with Liam Coogan picking out Barron and Leavy stricking from distance. Kildalkey pointed from another free to level up proceedings at 15 each. Two Nolan frees and one from play really got the home support going after the Ó Laoires combined to pick him out. Another beauty from Mark Leavy was followed up by full forward Kelly who, was fed by Dempsey and Níall Ó Laoire whilst taking a quick break from his Podger Geoghegan duties. Frees were exchanged with 2 mins left and the lads in the black corner were firmly in the driving seat. Another injury and subsequent stopage was the last thing the home team wanted at this stage when they had all the momentum. From the restart Kildalkey pointed from a free. Who should respond but Nolan with his last free followed up by the baby Leavy pointing to extend their advantage. 0-22 to 0-16.
Could the visitors muster up a goal? Thankfully the full time whistle sounded from the resulting puc out.
