Cortown's Oisin Smith

Seneschalstown 0-15 Cortown 2-11

Cortown registered their first away League win of the season thanks to a last gasp Oisin Smith goal in Seneschalstown on Sunday morning.

Things began well for the away side with Charlie Smith popping over the opening score following a neat pass from Elliot Reilly. Things got even better for the men in yellow moments later with the opening goal which was brilliantly worked. It started with Goalkeeper Colm McGearty who found Ciaran Keating with a pinpoint kick-out. Keating found King of the Sheep Kevin Muldoon who fed Oisin Smith with the corner forward needing two bites to get it by Flash Gordon.

Jamie Norris then kicked Seneschalstown's opening score, a two-pointer no less wind-assisted. Smith reestablished the three-point buffer penalising a 50 metre infringement by the hosts.

The red-hot Smith was once again the beneficiary of some fine Luca Brady play to extend the visitors advantage. The same combination linked up for the next score with the former lashing over from close range to make it 1-5 to 0-2 after 20 minutes.

The Furze responded with James Norris from an acute angle and then an extraordinary two-pointer from the King of the gearish garb Flash Gordon from downtown.

The agricultural full forward Daragh O'Halloran made some of nothing to drive over off the crossbar. Seneschalstown struck level thanks to another excellent two-pointer, this time off the deck from Conlon. Norris popped over another free to hand the hosts and unlikely lead for the first time which was doubled before the break to give the home side a 0-10 to 1-05 lead.

Norris extended the lead for Stan O'Brien's side to three with a free early in second half. The top marksman again punished Cortown's ill-discipline with a brace of quickfire frees to open up a five point lead.

Colm McGearty unleashed a huge two point effort from a free to get Cortown's maiden score of the half to make it a one score game.

David Fox nudged the men in blue and yellow four in front thanks to a close range effort. Smith stung the palms of Gordon as the ball was deflected over for a Cortown point and the margin was three again at the three quarter mark.

The sides exchanged scores with Jake Coyne pointing from an acute angle. The evergreen Stephen Fitzmaurice entered the fray and rolled back the years with a brace of quickfire scores off left and right to narrow the gap to one entering stoppage time.

There was still more drama to come as an excellent McGearty kick-out found Elliot Reilly long. The pacy midfielder drove through the heart of the Seneschalstown defence before dishing off to Smith who was jolly on the spot to palm home a dramatic late goal to win it for Martin McGovern's men.

McGearty making his seasonal reappearance, was excellent. The full back line of Barry Canning, Decky Clarke and Gavin Clarke were solid throughout whilst Smith providing the ammunition to fire Cortown to victory.

The win relegates Seneschalstown to bottom spot ahead of another big Relegation four-pointer against Skryne in a fortnight with a handful of games remaining.
