Gaeil Colmcille 0-15 Ballinabrackey 2-08
Come of the hour, come of the man, like so many times in the past 20 years Brian Beano Hanlon has come up trumps in the clutch situations for Gaeil Colmcille and with the last kick of the game a free from just outside the two point arc sailed over to give Kells the win after trailing by a point.
In a slow opening quarter the sides were level at one point each with a fisted effort from Seamus Mattimoe getting the Gaeils off the ground. The small purple patch for the Kells men saw them lead by three with Oisin Reilly, Aaron Browne and Ajay Tormey pointing.
Chances were going a begging for both teams but a two pointer from Ballinabrackey got them back between one point. A Beano Hanlon free restored the Kells two point lead but that was cut to one as The Bracks scored the last of the half to see Kells lead 0-05 to 0-04.
Two points in quick succession from Hanlon and Browne put the Gaeils three up but as Kells found some daylight, Ballinabrackey struck for the games opening goal to draw the teams level.
The last twelve minutes plus injury time saw a series of lead changes with a Hanlon free putting Kells one up. The Bracks hit their second two pointer of the game to see them lead by one but when Mattimoe responded with a two pointer Kells once again took the lead.
With 61 minutes played Ballinabrackey struck for their second goal of the game and it looked a winner to put two between the teams. Credit must be given to Gaeil Colmcille as with the game in injury time looked to try and salvage something from the game and goalkeeper Barry Farrelly found himself in the full forward line and latched on a loose ball and pointed to put the minimum between the teams.
From the resulting kickout Kells overturned the Bracks defence and were awarded the free that saw Beano seal the win for the Gaeils to move them up to 8th in the league table.
