MHT Group C final: Late points seals silverware for Tones

After losing out to St. Michaels/Nobber in the MFT Group E final on Thursday Wolfe Tones regrouped to claimed the Minor Hurling Tournament Group C title with three points to spare over Killyon at Lomans Park Trim. PHOTOS

Despite the weather conditions both teams should be commended for serving up a great game of hurling.

Killyon played with the elements in the opening half. A brace from full forward Sean Cotter Nolan got the scoreboard working. Tomas Dillon opened Wolfe Tones account before Cotter Nolan added his third. By the 15th minute the sides were level after two fine efforts from Tones number 14 Cormac McKenna. Killyon started to dominate. Centre back Jack McKeown raised three wonderful white flags in a row and Cotter Nolan closed the scoring with his fourth to give Killyon a 0-7 to 0-3 interval lead. 

A different Wolfe Tones came out in the second half and inside ten minutes they were in front with points from Tomas Dillon, Cormac McKenna (3) and Sean Barrett. Cotter Nolan landed his 5th to level matters before the games first goal arrived, Barrett was on hand to finished to the Killyon net and opened up a three point lead. Sean Carroll’s charges showed real grit and minutes later Zack Rogers had the sliothar in the Tones net, all square again with five minutes remaining. That’s as good as it got for the team in Red as Wolfe Tones took over and were rewarded with points from Oisin Farrelly and McKenna (2) to seal victory.

After the game Minor Board secretary David Campbell presented the MHT Group C cup to Wolfe Tones captain Aidan Dorran.
