Nobber/St Michael’s 4-21 (33)
Wolfe Tones 4-12 (24)
After the historic occasion of our ladies' team the weekend before, there was another final for the club to look forward to, and this time it was the turn of our minor team. The Nobber/St Michael’s minor team combination travelled the short distance to Moynalty on Thursday evening last to face local rivals Wolfe Tones in their Group E final.
An ideal evening for football with the sun shining and little breeze, the spectators were treated to a fantastic game of football played under great conditions on the Moynalty surface. Nobber/St Michael’s started brightly in the opening 10 minutes and led by 4 V 2. CJ Lynch was a constant thorn in the Wolfe Tones' defence and was a danger man upfront for the Nobber/St Michael’s combination. The tricky wing half forward, Stephen Dolan, got his name on the scoreboard several times with some well-taken points. The midfield duo of Korede Otubango and Eoin Larkin were prominent, winning prime possession and setting up attacks. At half-time Nobber/St Michael’s held a healthy 9-point lead.
As the second half resumed, Wolfe Tones came out of the blocks the quickest and rattled the net with two quick goals to the joy of their supporters. It was well and truly game on. Both sides traded scores throughout the second period, with Stephen Dolan once again moving well, Fionn Murray, and Sean Behan all registering important scores for the Nobber/St Michael’s combination.
As the game lead into the final few minutes, the Tones threw everything at it and there was little to separate the sides until substitute Tony Shannon Smith raised the roof and finished low and hard to the back of the net to the joy of his teammates and the Nobber/St Michael’s management and supporters.
A hugely enjoyable, high-scoring game of football played in great conditions, with Nobber/St Michael’s coming out on the right side of the result. Well done to all the team and management.
