Aaron Russell got the scoreboard working for the Stamullen men but a brace of frees from Moynalty full forward Eoin Gilsenan had the team in red in front after ten minutes. From there on to the short whistle St. Pats dominated. Full forward Tommy Loughran raised the games first green flag after some brilliant work from midfielder Oisin Moran. Declan Lenehan landed a two pointer, Fergal Hackett, Moran and Lenehan again added points before goal number two arrived. Odhran McNally fisted the ball to the net after been set up by Loughran. Robbie Purfield's men led at the break 2-7 to 0-3.
The introduction of county panelist Shane Bennett ignited a Moynalty fightback in the second half. Gilsenan had the ball in the Pats net after five minutes but the eventual winners replied with their third goal through the impressive McNally. The boys in white and green had a chance to put the game out of reach soon after but a penalty miss, their second of the game, kept Moynalty’s hopes alive. With five minutes remaining, Gilsenan was in for his second goal and only four points separated the teams. The Pats were not to be denied. Substitute Cillian Cullen steadied the ship with a point and Loughran followed suit soon after to make sure of victory.
After the game Fintan Porter (County Board) presented the Group C Cup to St. Pats captain Ralph Boland.
