On Saturday evening Kildalkey seniors took on the host team Kilmessan in Round 4 of the Division 1HL and lost out by the minimum on a score line of 2-13 to 1-17.
Both teams will have ambitions of going well in the championship and were eager to lay down a marker for later on in the year.
Kildalkey led by 1-7 to 0-9 at halftime the goal coming from Cian Colhoun and points from Nicky Potterton (2) Niall McNally (4 3f) and Paddy Potterton .
Both teams went point for point in the second half but a goal for kilmessan pushed them in front by 4 points but a brilliant individual goal from Nicky Potterton and a long range point from Brin Kelly and another from Luke Rickard had Kildalkey back in front by a point but a free from Kilmessan restored parity.
Both teams then traded scores but a long range point from a free from the Kilmessan keeper Stephen Clynch proved to be the winner.
Kildalkey had numerous chances to win the game but misfired in front of goals hitting some bad wides in what was an entertaining game despite plenty of mistakes.
As James McGrath blew his final whistle it was Kilmessan who took the 2 points on offer
