Meath girls never say die attitude, sees them lift All Ireland under 16 B camogie title.
Supporters from Meath and Armagh at Coralstown Kinnegad last Saturday were singing the praise of both teams after they were served up an exciting, tense, skilful and tough 60 odd minutes of camogie on a beautiful afternoon. The game was a fitting spectacle for an All Ireland final, having drawn earlier in the competition, it was no surprise that the match was won by the narrowest of margins.
Armagh started brightest with the wind and held a three point lead after 10 minutes, Meath continued to work hard around the middle third to get a steady supply of ball into the inside forwards. Meabh Cunningham (Kildalkey) was proving to be a real threat on the inside forward line and soon opened Meath's account, the tireless work of Ellen Murray (Trim) and Faye Govern (Dunderry) in the half forwards were key to Meath gaining the upper hand in the second quarter. Ellen Murray kept the scoreboard ticking over with a point from play, a 45 and a free from a tight angle close to half time, Additional points from Erin Mangan (Dunboyne) Saoirse Meagher (Clann na nGael) kept Meath in touch. Meath scored a crucial goal through the brilliance of Meabh Cunningham, who turned her marker at pace to fire home from 14 yards, The Meath defence stood strong with Aoife Dyer (Ratoath) in fine form in the goals.

The second half turned into a colossal battle where every player had to dig deep in search of possession. With frees hard won, It was from three placed balls and one from play that Ellen Murray kept Meath well in the fight. Armagh overturned some solid Meath pressure to register a number of well taken points as the game entered the final 10 minutes, Meath were dominant in defence with Grace Hogan (Navan O'Mahonys), Seamim Shaw (Killyon) and Aoibheann Ward (Na Fianna) winning possession with some superb catches and tackles to set Meath on the attack. A long ball from Grace Hogan to Holly Reilly (Boardsmill) on the right ring was worked inside to Meabh Cunningham who spun out of the tackle to fire low to the keepers left for a second Meath goal.
Wth six minutes to play Saoirse Meagher fired Meath in front for the first time. Armagh would equalize as the clock hit 60 minutes.
A further strong Meath attack led to a 45 which player of the match Ellen Murray dispatched over the bar under huge pressure, Meath broke up the last Armagh attack to take a one point victory.
On Sunday May 4th, Meath U-16 Camogie development squad travelled to Ennis in Co. Clare for an All Ireland Development Final. The Meath girls once more came strong in the final 10 minutes turning a half time deficit into a brilliant win .
