Division 8 FL
St. Michaels 1-12, Bective 1-12
A period of silence surrounded the venue when the final whistle sounded in sunny Carlanstown on Tuesday evening last following this entertaining contest, while a draw is never a bad result, both sides felt they should have come away with a victory.
Sean Hardy was the hero for the hosts as he rescued them with a late point for a share of the spoils against a Bective side who fought to the final whistle.
St. Michaels led by two at the break with Hardy stealing the first half show with three scores to his name including a well struck goal after four minutes. Cian McFadden (0-2), Connor Bates and Ciaran Lynch also added a point apiece. Bective kept the scoreboard ticking with six points from play and a converted free to trail by just two at the break, 1-6 to 0-7.
Lee Morris and Lynch struck for early points in the new half as Bective went through a ten minute barren spell mainly due to Cathal Walsh and his five backs who all did a great job closing down the Bective forwards, but the visitors enjoyed a five minute spell when they sent over three unanswered points before Lynch stopped the rot with a converted free.
Bates and Paddy Fitzsimons gave the St. Michaels lads a four point cushion with 12 minutes remaining, Bective however were sparked back into life when they added 1-1 in a five minute spell to go level and they then took the lead for the first time on 58 minutes but up popped Sean Hardy at the other end for the leveler on the stroke of full time.
