Skryne 1-16 Seneschalstown 2-12
Skryne edged out Seneschalstown by a single point in a gripping Division 5 Round 6 clash in the Tommy Dowd Oil Football League Division 5. A late flurry of scores and a dramatic injury-time goal ensured Skryne claimed the spoils, despite a spirited performance from the visitors.
Seneschalstown were the first to register a score with James Meade converting a free in the opening two minutes. Skryne responded well and seized the early advantage with three points on the bounce by the eighth minute James Conlon pulled one back for Seneschalstown in the 18th minute when he flicked over Jack McDonnell’s dropping shot and that score marked a shift in momentum as Seneschalstown began to assert themselves. Alex Finnegan added a tiny point after the ball came off the upright before a huge score for the visitors.
Owen Mullen struck a decisive goal after 25 minutes when he got in along a small gap along the endline to hand his side a 1-3 to 0-3 lead.
Sean Davis and Matthew Cowley chipped in with points before the break, leaving the halftime score at Seneschalstown 1-5 to Skryne’s 0-3.
Skryne started the second half quickly with a point just 12 seconds in. They followed up with another free, but Owen Mullen responded almost immediately with a point for Seneschalstown. From the resultant kickout, Seán Davis intercepted the loose ball and he fed James Conlon who rattled the ball in off the underside of the crossbar.
Skryne responded through a couple of frees including a two pointer narrowing the gap once again but Jamie Norris added a two point free of his own for Seneschalstown midway through the half. Skryne remained within touching distance three on the bounce including another two pointer to leave two between the sides.
As the match entered injury time, Sean Davis looked to have sealed it for Seneschalstown with a fine point two minutes into injury time.
But there was late drama still to come.
Skryne got in for a gaol deep in injury time to level matters, and they added another point shortly before the final whistle to seal a dramatic comeback victory leaving Seneschalstown stunned.
