Moynalvey's David McLoughlin

Moynalvey remain joint top of the J.M Food Services Div. 2 football league table having kept their unbeaten run intact coming away from Tony Callaghan Park Duleek with a fourteen point win on Saturday afternoon May 10th.

Duleek/Bellewstown 1-11 Moynalvey 3-19

Trailing by two points at half time, a dominant second half performance from Barry O’Keeffe’s Moynalvey saw them outscore the home side 2-12 to 0-2 in the second period to run out comfortable fourteen point winners on a 3-19 to 1-11 score line.

Moynalvey got off to a quick start with 1-2 on the score board within the opening seven minutes, the points from David McLoughlin and the goal a close range finish by Conor Quinn.

The home side’s opening score was a two pointer from John Flood in the 8th minute and ninety seconds later it was all square, 1-2 apiece, when Duleek/Bellewstown scored a goal of their own.

Moynalvey’s Adam Murphy and Duleek/Bellewstown’s Kyle Callaghan traded points, before a second two pointer for John Flood left the home side two points to the good, 1-5 to 1-3 with nineteen minutes played.

Two minutes later, a Kyle Callaghan free left it 1-6 to 1-3. Moynalvey responded with a point from  full forward William Harnan to cut the deficit to two, 1-6 to 1-4.

Two Kyle Callaghan frees for Dulek/Bellewstown were countered by a pair of David McLoughlin points to leave it 1-8 to 1-6 with twenty eight minutes played.

Both sides added a point each before referee Andrew Lenehan’s half time whistle meaning the score board read 1-9 to 1-7 in favour of Duleek/Bellewstown at the break.

Whatever Barry O’Keeffe and his management team said to his charges in the dressing room at the interval had the desired effect as a much improved second half saw them outscore the home side 2-12 to 0-2 in the second half.

It was Duleek/Bellewstown who opened the second half scoring with a Jamie Crosby point, but they would have to wait until a few minutes from full time for their next score.

Three points from David McLoughlin, two frees and a sweetly struck ’45 started Moynalvey’s second half scoring spree. These McLoughlin points were followed by his side’s second goal, Conor Quinn somehow finishing low past Daniel Scully in the Duleek/Bellewstown goals.

Adam Murphy hit the next two scores, a point and then an opportunistic goal following a high ball in which broke for him to finish to the Duleek/Bellewstown net. Vinny Walsh added a point soon after the goal to make it 3-12 to 1-10 midway through the second half.

Two David Mcloughlin scores, the first a two point free were followed by points for William Harnan, Adam Murphy and Vinny Walsh, leaving it 3-18 to 1-10 with five minutes remaining.

The home side registered the second of their second half points, before top scorer David McLoughlin sent over the final score meaning Moynalvey ran out 3-19 to 1-11 winners.

Best for Moynalvey were Charlie McCormack, Brian O’Reilly, Padraic Harnan and top scorer David McLoughlin.

Next up for Moynalvey is a trip to Stamullen to play St. Patrick in round seven in a fortnight.
