Navan O’Mahony’s 2-11 Trim 1-23

Navan O’Mahony’s suffered defeat at the hands of a strong Trim side on Thursday evening, with the hosts running out as nine point winners.

Trim opened the scoring in the second minute, before Sean McDermott got O’Mahony’s on the scoreboard for the first time. Pat Nolan’s point in the fifth minute gave O’Mahony’s the lead for the only time, but this was wiped out in the next two minutes by two Trim scores from play.

The sides were briefly level after McDermott pointed from play again but the next four scores came for the home side and put them in front. Two frees within ninety seconds from Jack Walsh narrowed the gap around the midway mark of the half and a good save from John Foley prevented a goal.

Trim finished out the half strongly adding five points, compared to two from O’Mahony’s for Walsh and Finn Malone. As a result, the hosts held a six point advantage at the break.

Trim extended their lead after two minutes. Once again two frees from Walsh reduced the gap to five points with less than five minutes gone in the second half.

The sides then exchanged points, with Trim scoring from play and Malone following a textbook catch with an impressive point. Ten minutes into the second half, Trim had extended the lead to four points. A penalty for Walsh brought Trim back within reaching distance.

The first score after the penalty came from Trim and gave them a small bit of breathing space. The closest the sides came in the second half was when Nolan’s shot ended in the net but this was short-lived, with the hosts responding in turn within sixty seconds.

Trim added three points for the remainder of the game, with one from O’Mahony’s, courtesy of Walsh in injury time.
