Killyon 2-19 Kildalkey 3-14
Killyon claimed the Brendan Davis Cup for the first time since 2014 with this two point win over Kildalkey in a very entertaining game played in splendid conditions at Fr. Plunkett Park.
The visitors got a great start. Captain Keith Keogan pointed a free before Dylan Farrell got the games first goal. Keogan doubled his tally soon after and Killyon were 1-2 to 0-0 up inside the first five minutes.
Kildalkey worked themselves back into the game and by the 15th minute they were 1-5 to 1-3 in front. Evan Fitzgerald (2), Niall McNally (2) and Garry Kelly with the points before Conor Fitzgerald found the back of the Killyon net.
Killyon finished out the half the stronger. Brendan Quinn with an inspirational point, an Adam Gannon brace and three from Keogan gave the men in Red and Green a 1-10 to 1-8 interval lead.
That lead was out to five inside the opening ten minutes of the second half but within minutes Kildalkey had it down to one with a Brin Kelly point and a goal from substitute Cian Colhoun.
Killyon responded in fine style with scores from Keogan (2), Cathal McKeon and Justin Coyne and looked set for victory. The home side had other ideas. McNally raised their third green flag after a goalmouth scramble and Evan Fitzgerald send over the equaliser as injury time approached. Killyon were not to be denied. Brendan Quinn got on the end of a long ball to finished past Colm Barry in the Kildalkey goal. Gary Kelly reduced it to two and despite a few attempts for a goal the Killyon defence held firm to seal a great start to the season.
After the game Donal Davis and Michael Bird presented the Brendan Davis Cup to Killyon captain Keith Keogan
