Navan O'Mahony's defeated Na Fianna in the Feile Final at Simonstown

Feile Cup Final Sunday 27th April - Navan O’Mahony’s and Na Fianna

Na Fianna were the most impressive team in the competition and after disposing Donaghmore Ashbourne in their semi final, few were looking further than the girls in yellow. O'Mahonys had other ideas though.

Na Fianna started the brighter and were a point up after a minute. O'Mahony's drew level on 6 minutes but were instantly behind again within a minute when a sweeping move put Na Fianna a point up. They followed that up with points on 13 mins and another point in added time going in at the short break 4 points to 1 up.

Whatever was said at half time needs to be bottled because O'Mahonys came out of the blocks in the second half scoring a point after 15 seconds. Two more points within a minute had them level with Na Fianna. O'Mahonys then scored 2 more in quick succession to lead 0-06 to 0-04 after 3 minutes of the second half. Na Fianna fought back but another score went to the Navan girls with 7 minutes played to stretch the lead.

Na Fianna struck back with a well worked goal on 9 minutes to level the game and the tension was unbearable.  Both teams fought bravely for every ball and the enthralling contest erupted when O'Mahonys scored another point on 11 mins to take the lead again. This was quickly followed up by another point putting 2 between them with 3 minutes left to play. Na Fianna to their credit never gave up and put huge pressure on the O'Mahonys defence who stood firm until the final whistle winning 0-09 to 1-04.

The elation of the O'Mahonys squad, mentors and supporters was clear to see as they won out a great contest to become Feile Cup Champions and represent Meath at National Feile.

Shield Final Sunday 27th April - Walterstown and Moylagh/St Brigid’s

Walterstown victorious on the day. A tense final played in great spirit by two well matched teams! Walterstown started brightly with a point within a minute and followed up with another on 6 mins. Moylagh/St Brigid’s responded with a point on 8 minutes before Walterstown hit another point on 11 minutes to see out the half.

The second 15 was a tight & tense game and Walterstown got the breakthrough in the 10th minute scoring a point which would be the final score of the game.

Credit to Moylagh/St Brigid’s who battled right to the end but could not break a resolute Walterstown defence.
