St. Michaels 0-12, Meath Hill 0-15
North Meath derbies usually have an extra bit of spice and that certainly applied on Saturday evening last when St. Michaels entertained Meath Hill in this division 2 encounter in Carlanstown. A large crowd, a close match and several yellow cards kept both sets of supporters entertained up to the final whistle.
David Lynch opened the scoring for St. Michaels in the second minute when he got on the end of a sweeping move to curl over for a two pointer, Meath Hill got off the mark two minutes later with a converted free and this set a pattern for the remainder of the match as St. Michaels indiscipline in their own half gifted the Meath Hill side ten of their fifteen point tally from frees. Declan Reilly added a fine effort from play as did Daniel Murphy before Gearóid O'Malley sent a two pointer over on 28 minutes to make it 0-9 to 0-6 to the visitors at the break.
In the second half Meath Hill got the opening point which was followed by another Declan Reilly minor but the hosts then found themselves chasing the lead when a ten minute spell for the Meath Hill lads yielded a further five points including a two pointer to go 0-15 to 0-7 in front. Slowly but surely St. Michaels began to take command and proceeded to enjoy the better of the remaining exchanges shutting out the Meath Hill forwards while Gearóid O'Malley worked his magic and split the posts five times at the opposite end, however the final whistle soon sounded to give Meath Hill the bragging rights despite a valiant effort from the St. Michaels lads.
