FL Div 4: First win for Nobber

April 28, 2025

Nobber's Niall Farrell

Nobber 0 – 18 (18) St Brigid’s 1 – 12 (15)

Nobber picked up their first win of their Division 4 league campaign on Sunday morning last with a hugely impressive team performance from 1 – 15 all over the park. A pleasant, dry, sunny morning with a slight breeze, the black and ambers welcomed St Brigid’s of Ballinacree to their home grounds.

The opening quarter proved a tight affair with little separating the sides on the scoreboard. Nobber shooting into the village end goals started the scoring, with a white flag raised by midfielder Conor Owens. The experienced Niall Farrell slotted over a free for the black and ambers' second point. A well-taken two-pointer by corner forward Dale Larkin pushed the Nobber men slightly ahead. Larkin may have other priorities this week with his wedding taking place on Thursday, however, he had the scoring boots firmly on for Derek Walsh’s charges in this important league encounter.

Throughout the first half period, vice-captain Mark Condra was influential around the middle of the park, winning plenty of possession and setting up attacks for his teammates. Former Meath minor Colin Clarke showed all his experience in the half forward line with a workmanlike attitude and performance. The Deesiders concluded their first-half scoring with a classy taken score from corner forward Karl Casserly, with another Owens and Larkin point each.

Half-time score – Nobber 0 – 9 (9) St Brigid’s 0 – 6 (6)

Derek Walsh’s charges continued in the second half with intent and were determined to pick up their first league points of the 2025 campaign. Stephen O’Brien fisted a point to get the black and ambers up and running. Larkin continued to be deadly from the placed ball, and the ever-reliable Niall Farrell kicked a lovely score into the O’Carolan College end goals of the ground after making use of plenty of space made available to him on the clubhouse side of the pitch.

With 10 minutes remaining, Nobber looked comfortable with a seven-point lead (15 v 8). Fallback and team captain Barry Cassidy encouraged his teammates forward, and the Nobber men raised a number of white flags through Jamie Duffy, Larkin (2), O’Brien, and an impressive 2-pointer from the greenway side of the pitch from firefighter Farrell. St Brigid’s, to their credit, never gave up and scored a goal in the dying seconds.

Next up for Nobber is an away fixture against Bective on Sunday, May 11 at 11 AM.
