Sorry to report the passing of Jim Curtis, Honorary President of Meath GAA.
One of the county's best known and longest serving Gaels Jim Curtis was elected as a President of Meath GAA at the 2020 county convention.
The Rathkenny native is a former chairman and long time official of the Syddan club and served as a Meath football selector and also on a number of positions at County Board level.
Jim who lived at Ballybalia, outside Ardee represented Meath at minor football level for two years and played for a number of clubs in his youth.
Jim’s father Jimmy was a midfielder on the famed Rathkenny team that won 5 SFC titles in 1917, ’18, ’19, ’22 and ’23.
The centenary of the 1918 success was marked by inviting his son Jim to throw in the ball for the 2018 Dunboyne versus Summerhill Meath SFC final.
Jim boasts a lengthy and distinguished involvement in gaelic football in his own right.
His started his football career with the Syddan juveniles, winning Championship honours in 1946. He went on to play Minor level with Dee Rangers and donned the green and gold jersey at minor level in 1952 and ’53.
He played adult football with Rathkenny, Castletown, North Meath and Kilberry.
He trained the Syddan team that contested the 1980 SFC final and was a selector with Sean Boylan when Meath won the Centenary Cup in 1984. He filled the same role with the junior team that won Leinster titles in 1986 and 1988 as well as the All-Ireland title in '88.
He also served at County Board level both on the executive and the disciplinary committee. Jim was also chairman of the Sean Gael Committee where many of the older generation of volunteers who had provided great service to the GAA were recognised. He was also a 'gateman' at Pairc Tailteann for many years.

Funeral Details
Reposing at his residence (A92 P792) on Saturday and Sunday from 3pm to 7pm. Removal on Monday morning arriving to The Church of the Nativity of Our Lady, Ardee, for 10am Funeral Mass. Burial afterwards in Ballapousta Cemetery.
