Navan O'Mahony's 4-15 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 2-16
Navan O'Mahony's came out on top in this high scoring encounter in Ashbourne on Tuesday evening in Round 3 of the Div 9 FL, after a loss in Round 1 and Round 2 being postponed.
The hosts got off to a quick start, kicking four point to O'Mahony's one, which came from Clayton O'Sullivan. The same player drew the sides level with an impressive goal a few minutes later. Paul Cunninham followed this with a goal of his own, giving O'Mahony's the lead for the first time. Again, Donaghmore Ashbourne pushed on, kicking three points to draw level. It was Cunningham who gave O’Mahony’s the lead for the second time with a point.
A similar pattern emerged with ‘the Moors’ scoring three points to edge in front again. A strong period from O’Mahony’s saw O’Sullivan and Cunningham add to their earlier scores before Max Farrelly found the net (for the second time in 3 days!) to extend the lead. A goal for Ashbourne put the narrowest between them before Jake Patterson added his name to the scoresheet with a point to leave two in it.
Navan O’Mahony’s 3-06 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 1-10
Just as they had done in the first half, Ashbourne got off to a great start kicking five uninterrupted points. Andy Leech, who had put in a stellar first half, was forced to the line after receiving an injury during a tackle. Ciaran McGuinness got the scoring going for O’Mahony’s with a point, followed by a two-pointer free from O’Sullivan.
With two points between the sides, O’Sullivan rattled the net for his second goal, exchanging the lead once again. Not content with this, he then added a two-pointer once again ensuring that the umpires were waving flags of every colour for the full-forward. Cunningham extended the lead with a point.
Although the sides exchanged points in the closing stages of the game, with Ben Forde and Podge Gallagher adding their name to the score-sheet, O’Mahony’s had enough in the tank to hold on and claim the two points on offer following a very exciting game. In addition to the scorers, O’Mahony’s were well served by impressive displays by, among others, Killian Clarke Doggett and Cillian Roe.
