Meath Hill 1-07 1-13 Navan O’Mahonys
Meath Hill suffered a tough defeat at home to Navan O’Mahonys on Saturday evening, as a strong final quarter from the visitors saw them come away with a six-point win in this Division 2 Round 4 clash.
The game began with promise as Sean Owens opened the scoring from a free. Meath Hill looked sharp in the early exchanges, with Ryan Owens calmly adding a second after good buildup play. However, a missed opportunity from a long-range free proved costly, as O’Mahonys countered immediately and struck for a goal — swinging the momentum in their favour.
Despite good defensive pressure and some key turnovers, Meath Hill struggled to capitalise on attacking chances. Missed frees and wides allowed O’Mahonys to stretch their lead, going five up before James Mooney reignited the home crowd with a determined solo goal. A point from Jake Gillen soon after left the score at 1-3 to 1-5 at halftime.
The second half saw more frustration for Meath Hill, with several chances falling short or drifting wide. O’Mahonys kept the scoreboard ticking over, aided by a two-point free awarded for dissent, pushing them out to a four-point lead at 1-8 to 1-4. Ryan Shekelton notched a fine point and later added a 2-point effort to narrow the gap to just two with six minutes to play.
However, O’Mahonys showed their experience late on, punishing Meath Hill errors with a flurry of late points. Despite solid defensive efforts, Meath Hill were unable to claw their way back, as the game finished 1-13 to 1-07 in favour of the visitors.
