Ultans opened the scoring with Mark Allen shooting from range and raising the first orange Flag of the game. Drumbaragh responded in style with a point from play and a Hughie Corcoran goal from play. Drumbaragh were awarded a penalty which they converted to lead by five. Buchanan pointed a free but one of the key moments of the half was a crucial save from Keith Hennessy to deny Drumbaragh a third goal. Midfielder Cian McBride steadied the ship with a point. Chris Rennicks then hit the net and the home side started to take control. The next five scores came from the home side from Buchanan, Foster, two from Adam Rogers and a two pointer for Conor Finnegan. Drumbaragh scored a free just before half time to leave five between the sides at the break.
Drumbaragh started brightly with two frees to close the gap. Lee Hennessy burst through the middle and his powerful goal bound effort was tipped over the bar by the Drumbaragh keeper. Two further scores from the visitors put pressure on the home side, Buchanan extended the lead with point and Chris Rennicks won the resulting kickout he found Adam Rogers in space who made no mistake for Ultans second goal. A further Buchanan point from play was cancelled out with a Drumbaragh free but two points from Conor Finnegan in quick succession looked to have given Ultans a significant cushion six up with ten minutes remaining. Two Drumbaragh frees and two from play including a pair of two pointers drew the sides level with a minute remaining. Both sides had chances to win it but it looked like a draw would be the ultimate outcome. Three minutes into injury time Cian McBride turned over the ball in the Drumbaragh’s defence a raced through on goal and fisted over the winning score to end an enthralling contest.
