The hosts came away with both points in this entertaining J M Food Services, Football League Division 2, Round 4 game played in Rathkenny last Saturday afternoon, April 12th.

Referee Paul Mooney threw up the ball just on 4pm in bright sunshine as the hosts played away from the clubhouse end in the opening half. Joey Curtis opened the scoring for the hosts with a point from play on three minutes. Rathkenny added a second in the fifth minute from the boot of David Curtis. With seven minutes on the clock, the visitors opened their account from a pointed free. Noah Jenkinson sent over a free for the hosts on nine minutes, before midfielder Max McKenna sent over a great score as the clock showed ten minutes had been played. The hosts then had a goal opportunity as a passing move ended with Joey Curtis having his goal bound effort well blocked by the Duleek Bellewstown rearguard. As we approached the quarter hour mark, David Curtis extended Rathkennys lead to four points from a free.
In the seventeenth minutes the visitors sent over their second point of the game. Both sides were then guilty of short efforts before the visitors closed the gap on twenty-four minutes. Rathkenny full back Adam Byrne then found himself close to goal and sent over on twenty-eight minutes. The hosts had another goal effort saved before the visitors closed out the half with a pointed free, Rathkenny 0-6 Duleek Bellewstown 0-4.
Rathkenny started the second half strongest as they added three points from Joey Curtis, Max McKenna and a Noah Jenkinson free to lead by five with the clock showing thirty-five minutes played. The visitors reduced the gap with a two-pointer free on thirty-eight minutes. The hosts then got the crucial goal as Joey Curtis found the net in the fortieth minute. Duleek Bellewstown reduced the gap with another two-pointer free and quickly followed that up with another point to leave just three between the sides. The hosts full forward Oisin Cummins-Fuller popped over a good point as we approached the three- quarter mark. A David Curtis free put five between the sides as we approached the final ten minutes. Two further scores were added by Rathkenny through Noah Jenkinson and David Curtis by the fifty-second minute. Joey Curtis added another point for the hosts two minutes later and then Noah Jenkinson sent over a free in the fifty-seventh minute. The visitors sent over their final point of the evening before Noah Jenkinson added another point from a free as we went into stoppage time.
