Moynalvey continued their good start to division two with a comprehensive win over Curraha in round four played at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Saturday afternoon April 12th.
Moynalvey 4-23 Curraha 0-15
Conceding home advantage due to development works to the Curraha pitch, it was Gavin Coyle’s side who went down to home side Moynalvey by twenty points in this round four game.
It was host side Moynalvey who dominated proceedings in the opening ten minutes opening up a 0-7 to 0-1 lead. Padraic Harnan opened the scoring with a two pointer from the outside of the boot in the second minute, Curraha opened their account sixty seconds later with centre forward Ronan Flynn pointing. David McLoughlin fired over the next four points with Brian O’Reilly adding another to leave it 0-7 to 0-1 with ten minutes played.
A brace of Curraha points from Ruari O’Sullivan were countered by Moynalvey scores from Conor Quinn and Barry Walsh to leave it treble scores, 0-9 to 0-3, with fourteen minutes played.
The first of James McEntee’s two point frees and a point from Jamie Fewer either side of a Conor Quinn score for the home side left it 0-10 to 0-6 with seventeen minutes played.
Craig Gilsenan fired over before the visitors hit five points without reply, the first being the second of James McEntee’s two point frees followed up by efforts from Andrew Coyle and two from Ronan Flynn to draw the sides level for just a second time, 0-11 apiece.
Moynalvey finished out the half with a further 1-2, 1-1 from top scorer David McLoughlin, the goal from the penalty spot and a Ciaran Harnan point to leave the half time score board read 1-13 to 0-11 when referee Robbie Barrett blew his whistle for half time.
The second half was more of the same from Moynalvey with them registering a further 3-8 until Curraha got off the mark in the 25th minute of the second half.
A pair of David McLoughlin scores before Craig Gilsenan scored his side’s second goal four minutes into the second half put Moynalvey into a comfortable lead just as the home side had done early in the first half. The difference this time was they followed it up by limiting the opposition to scoring just four second half points while taking advantage of their own opportunities.
Another McLoughlin point followed up by what looked like Shane Lenehan getting the finishing touch to a high ball to make its way to the Curraha net meant Moynalvey held a commanding 3-16 to 0-11 lead seven minutes into the second half.
McLoughlin then hit another four points in a row before Moynalvey’s fourth and final goal after substitute Evan Drum poached on a parry by Curraha ‘keeper Matthew Brennan to finish to the net, leaving it 4-20 to 0-11 with eleven minutes remaining.
Drum then pointed which was followed by Curraha’s first point of the second half in the 55th minute. Another Moynalvey substitute Adam Murphy making his return from injury pointed, with Curraha sending over another three points and Moynalvey another one from Vinny Walsh left the full time score read 4-23 to 0-15.
Best for Moynalvey here were Conor Harnan, Brian O’Reilly, Craig Gilsenan, Padraic Harnan and David McLoughlin.
Next up for Moynalvey is a round five trip away to Simonstown Gaels on Saturday 26th April.
