Kian McGee gains possession for O'Mahony's against Seneschalstown

Navan O’Mahony’s 1-17 Seneschalstown 2-10

Although they led at half time, O’Mahony’s had to surge in the final ten minutes to reclaim the lead and keep their unbeaten run going in the Div 5 FL, played in chilly but sunny conditions on Sunday morning.

O’Mahony’s were quick off the mark, with Shane McCarthy pointing a free and Conor McEvoy adding a point from play in the opening two minutes. These were matched by an impressive two pointer from the hosts at the opposite end of the pitch. Hugh Clarke Carolan  pointed from play before McCarthy scored a two-pointer free.

Seneschalstown kicked two points from play, one of which was bound for the net until it was deflected over by netminder Niall Devlin. Further points came from McCarthy and a good run of play between Clarke-Carolan, Jack McConnell and Kian McGee ended with the latter raising a white flag. Tiarnán Black kicked three good scores in the final ten minutes, intertwined with a good period for Seneschalstown seeing them net 1-01. A McCarthy free left three in it at the interval

The gap was narrowed quickly, with Seneschalstown kicking a point with the aid of the upright. A good score from Evan Cully left three in it again. The hosts followed a point with a goal in the sixth minute, taking the lead for the first time.

This was extended to two in the tenth minute. Although they had a number of opportunities, O’Mahony’s struggled to reduce this deficit for much of the second half and kicked a number of wides and short balls. The sides swapped points with Clarke Carolan adding to his earlier efforts.

With five minutes on the clock, Max Farrelly made a serious impact from the bench to kick the goal that reclaimed the lead for his side. Dean Halpin added to this almost immediately and two points from McConnell proved the insurance that O’Mahony’s needed as the clock wound down.
