Seneschalstown 0-12 Summerhill 3-15
The concession of two goals in four second half minutes ultimately decided the outcome of this Round 4 League clash in favour of visitors Summerhill played in Seneschalstown on a glorious Friday evening.
The two goals in favour of the ‘Hill came after Seneschalstown had built some momentum at the beginning of the second half to reduce to deficit to four points but from there on Seneschalstown faced an uphill task.
It was the home side who were on target first when a superb diagonal cross field from Eoin Finnegan landed in the bread basket of Ronan Conneely and he clipped over the opening score from a central position. Summerhill levelled in the 10th minute but straight from the kickout Seneschalstown went up restored their early advantage, Robbie Finnegan kicking a booming long range effort from out on the left hand side. The sides exchanged scores again shortly afterwards either side of the quarter hour with Eoin Finnegan registering for the hosts after he won and coveted a close range free.
However, Summerhill dominated the last fifteen minutes of the half and got in around the back of the Seneschalstown defence in the 25th minute to find the net for the first time. This was among a run of an unanswered 1-04 which left Summerhill 1-06 to 0-03 ahead at the break.
Summerhill put the gap out to eight points straight after the resumption with a two point free. However, Seneschalstown were about to enjoy their best spell of the match which was kickstarted by Alan Mulvany in the 33rd minute. A minute later some good play from Seneschalstown set up Liam Dillon in space outside the 40 metre arc and he let fly from distance to raise an orange flag. Seneschalstown could sense some momentum building and when Eamon Finnegan added another to the home side’s tally there was only four between the sides.
However, Summerhill killed this momentum quickly and showed a ruthless streak when plundering for 2-01 in a four minute spell which went a long way to deciding the outcome of the game. A Neil Darby point was all Seneschalstown could muster up during the Summerhill power play.
Éamon Finnegan and Alan Mulvany helped Seneschasltown’s cause with further points as they kept plugging away but Summerhill’s ability to kick two pointers put an added gloss on the scoreline for the deserving winners. Rob Wogan chipped over Seneschalstown’s last score after being introduced off the bench as Seneschalstown were left to rue the concession of those two goals midway through the second half.
Seneschalstown’s next task is away to Ratoath on Saturday April 26th.
