St. Michaels 2-08, Seneschalstown 0-11
This was the proverbial game of two halves played in Carlanstown on Friday night last as the St. Michaels ladies hung on for dear life as the minutes ticked down to the final whistle.
Things certainly looked good for St. Michaels at half time with the home side leading by 2-7 to 0-2, however the home side's optimism at that stage had to be tempered as they had played with a very strong wind in the first half and those fears were realised as St. Michaels could only score a single point in a pulsating second half.
St. Michaels started off in blistering form with some fine shooting from Seona Lynch, Sinead McCormack and Claire Reilly, Reilly bagged her sides opening goal on nine minutes with McCormack following up with their second major three minutes later. Seneschalstown were struggling against the home sides drive and hunger and could only manage two minors against the strong wind. Seona Lynch who had an excellent half tagged on a further three points before McCormack made it 2-7 to 0-2 for the half hours work.
Seneschalstown looked a different outfit when they emerged for the second half, that strong wind in their favour was crucial as they kept tipping away and reducing the deficit on the scoreboard but luckily for the St. Michaels ladies time ran out for their opponents and some excellent defending saw them over the line for a hard earned two points.
