A perfect night for football set the stage for an entertaining Division 1 clash in Navan as Navan O’Mahonys hosted Dunshaughlin under the lights at Paddy O’Brien Park.
It was the visitors who struck first, hitting the net inside the opening two minutes. But the response from the home side was swift—Megan Collins found space just moments later and slotted home a composed goal to level the match.
Orlaith Mallon began to find her stride, adding three points from play, while Denise McGrath and Collins chipped in to push O’Mahonys ahead. Dunshaughlin stayed in the contest with a string of points, but Mallon’s influence was telling throughout the half. A yellow card for Jorja Keogh near the break gave Dunshaughlin a brief numerical advantage, and they capitalised with two late points to close the gap.

Dunshaughlin started the second half with intent, grabbing their second goal just over a minute in to retake the lead. Mallon responded with two frees in quick succession to keep O’Mahonys firmly in the contest. As the sides continued to exchange scores, O’Mahonys made key changes with Neasa McDermott replacing Charlie Murray and Eimear Fay coming on for Rebecca Reilly.
The defining moment came in the 20th minute, when Denise McGrath lofted a loopy left-footed shot from range that dipped under the bar and crept in for a crucial goal. Just a minute later, McGrath followed up with a well-taken point to extend the lead. A third substitution saw Milly Clarke-Carolan introduced for Jorja Keogh, further strengthening the O’Mahonys setup.
Mallon added another free and Lauren Woods slotted a neat point from play as the home side looked to close it out. Dunshaughlin added two more points, but O’Mahonys defended well in the final minutes, with Robyn Murray making a key save to preserve the win.
O’Mahonys showed resilience and depth across the pitch, with standout performances from Mallon and McGrath, impactful substitutions, and a solid second-half effort in the back to secure a well-earned two-point victory on a night that showcased the best of Division 1 football.
