Ballinlough's Oisin McDermott

Ballinlough 1-02-10 (17) Clann na nGael 5-03-14 (35)

Ballinlough welcomed Clann na nGael to a picturesque Park for Round 3 of the Div.3 League with the game being preceded by an impeccable minutes silence in honour of Ballinlough Clubman Paddy Muldoon.

The visitors couldn’t have had a better start with a goal and a point in the opening two minutes before Ballinlough hit back with a pointed free from Sean Tunney.

Two superb scores from Kit Óg Lynch, that were just shy of the two-point scoring zone, brought Ballinlough right back in it before Clann na nGael extended their lead when a high ball in was flicked to the back of the net in the seventh minute. The visitors completely exerted their dominance over the next few minutes adding another 1-03 without reply to leave them leading handsomely on the scoreboard.

Ballinlough were heavily reliant on Kit Óg Lynch for scores in this first half and he was accurate with a 13th minute free before great work from Conor Fleming set him up for another point from play three minutes later.

A point from Harry Ryan lowered the deficit further but Clann na nGael were in bullish mood hitting another 1-02 by the 23rd minute to take command again.

Ballinlough did finish the half well with a fine two-point score for Oisin McDermott before a Sean Tunney point from play in the 28th minute concluded scoring for the half.

So, when Referee Peter O’Halloran blew the half time whistle Ballinlough trailed on a scoreline of 0-09 to Clann na nGaels 4-06.

The visitors started the second half with two points from play before a second two pointer for Oisin McDermott, this time from a free, and then an excellent goal from the same man, as he collected the ball in midfield, off-loaded and was on hand to take the return pass before weaving through several defenders to finish to the top corner from distance in the 37th minute.

With only six points between the sides now one would be forgiven for thinking Ballinlough could have applied further pressure and took something from this game, but the opposite was true as Clann na nGael hit back with three points without reply by the 40th minute to leave nine in it once again.

Substitute Jamie Casserly marked his introduction with a fine point from play in the 43rd minute and a Kit Óg Lynch free closed the gap further a few minutes later.

But once again Clann na nGael stepped it up a gear, with two points from play before a series of two pointers, three in as many minutes, putting them comfortably in charge of proceedings once again.

A late Harry Ryan point from play was scant consolation as Clann Na nGael tagged on a further two points and a fifth late goal to put the tin hat on proceedings so when Referee Peter O’Halloran blew the full-time whistle Clann Na nGael took the win on a scoreline of 5-20 to Ballinlough’s 1-14.
