Leinster MHC: Goals crucial as Meath get first win

Wicklow's Rian Mooney with Ruairi McCaffrey Meath during the Leinster MHC Tier 2 round 2 clash at Lomans Park Trim.

Meath 3-10 Wicklow 0-11

After losing out to a late late Offaly rally in the opening round Meath picked up their first win in the Leinster Minor Hurling Championship Tier 2 round 2 clash played in windy conditions at Lomans Park Trim.

Before the throw in there was a minutes silence in memory of Kilskyre stalwart Paddy Muldoon.

Pearce Anderson and Ciaran O’Brien put the home side in front and by the 15th minute Ray O’Connor’s men were 1-2 to 0-1 ahead thanks to a Eoin Flanagan goal. Soon after Pearce Anderson was in for goal number 2, after the Wicklow defence failed to clear their lines. Meath went to the dressing rooms 2-2 to 0-4 in front.

Conor Horan extended that lead early in the second half before Pearce Anderson raised the games third green flag and the young Royals were eight points in front. The visitors, playing against the wind, enjoyed their best spell of the game soon after and had the lead down to five by the 20th minute. A brace from the impressive Louis McIvor and and one from Conor Horan extinguished any threat of a comeback. McIvor and Horan added three more points to the Meath tally before referee Richard Holland blew the full time whistle.

Meath scorers: Pearce Anderson 2-1, Louis McIvor 0-4, Conor Horan 0-3, Eoin Flanagan 1-0, Ciaran O’Brien and Callum Buckley 0-1
