St. Peter’s College Dunboyne 1-9, Ashbourne Community School 4-9
Our Senior boys gaelic football team finally got to play their post primary league (B) semi-final. Our lads had won both their group games in October and had to wait until now before getting to play St. Peter’s College Dunboyne. A tough game was expected and it didn’t disappoint. Dunboyne had won the North Leinster, Leinster and had lost out in an All semi-final in the b championship. We travelled to Dunboyne with hope. A brilliant first half display set us up for victory. Playing against the wind our lads were compact at the back and were very efficient up front against a strong cross field wind. A brilliant finish to the net by Eoin Brangan had us ahead but Dunboyne hit their own goal just before half time to leave the sides level.
Half time score: St. Peter’s College Dunboyne 1-7, Ashbourne Community School 1-7
The second half started with Dunboyne on the attack, but they were finding it hard to work scores against the wind. Our lads were turning over a lot of ball and were making good use of possession up front. Two goals by joint captain Max Duffy and one from Niall Daly put us in the driving seat. We never looked back to claim a deserved 9-point victory against a very strong Dunboyne side. This was a brilliant team performance by all the players. It would be unfair to single out any individual players as it was a real panel effort. Their work rate, attitude and decision making were brilliant on the day. The lads will play Rathangan from Kildare in the final with details to be confirmed.
Thanks to their coaches Mr. Newman, Mr. Glennon and Brian Lynch for coaching the lads.
