FL Div 5: Strong second half seals win for 'Wood'

April 01, 2025

Kilmainhamwood's Darragh Smith

Kilmainhamwood 3-14 Cortown 0-5

Kilmainhamwood defeated Cortown on a bright and sunny morning. The first half was a tight affair despite the Wood having a large win at their backs. Three good points from Harry Corbally and two excellent 2pointers from Shane Townley along with two close range frees from Aidan Roche, left the Wood 0-9 to 0-3 up at the break. Cortown were competitive and must have felt they were very much still in the game with the wind at their backs for the 2nd half.

However, Darragh Smith had other ideas. The roaming wing back sprinted forward on numerous occasions and created 4 great goalscoring opportunities and netted two of these. The goals killed the game off as a contest before Eoin Finnegan netted a 3rd after an excellent solo run.

The win leave the Wood top of the table having won their opening three fixtures.

Best for the Wood were Darragh Smith and Shane Townley.
