Navan O’Mahony’s 8-15 Dunderry 0-06

O’Mahony’s dominated the second half of the opening round of the Div 3 CL, after the game being in the balance for the first half in a wet and windy Paddy O’Brien Park on Thursday evening.

Dunderry opened the scoring with a 45 in the first minute and the first quarter of the game was very much point for point. Lauren Woods opened the scoring for O’Mahony’s. The sides exchanged points again and Dunderry went ahead in the fifteenth minute with a free.  Lizzy Brennan, Aoibhín Kielty and Jorja Keogh added points to put O’Mahony’s ahead and the sides were level with seven minutes remaining with two Dunderry points from play.

Frees from Brennan and scores from play from Kielty gave O’Mahony’s a four point advantage at the interval, with a great save from the Dunderry netminder on the cusp of half time.

O’Mahony’s, with the wind behind them, were much more clinical in the second half with Kielty rattling the net within sixty seconds of the throw-in. By the time the ninth minute came round, goals from Izzy Kinsella and Keogh had extended the lead to fifteen. 

Dunderry’s only score of the half came in the twelfth minute, although they had a number of wides and balls dropping short against a strong wind. They found it difficult to advance past a strong defensive line led by Róisín Tobin and Doireann Mellett. Woods added two goals in five minutes. The game was over as a contest at this stage and Annie Hogan and Grace Gardiner added their names to the scoresheet. Two injury time goals from Keogh extended the lead further as O’Mahony’s look to progress on the good year that the camogie teams enjoyed in 2024.
