HL Div 2: Great start away from home for Dunderry

March 27, 2025

Dunderry's Conor Leavy

Dunderry 2-16 Blackhall Gaels 1-12

Dunderry made the trip up the Dublin road to Batterstown for the opening round of the League.

The first five scores were from placed ball. Evan Nolan with 3 and a 65 to leave it 0-1 to 0-4. The hosts then got the opening score from play and followed up with two more frees to level proceedings. Nolan drove over a monster free and straight afterwards got one from play after Conor Leavy picked him out.

Dunderry hit a purple patch then which was started and finished with a Nolan free.

Wing back Níall Ó Laoire blocked down in his usual fashion and Jordan Martin punished from the breaking ball. From the resulting puck out Podge Stephens gathered on his full back line, fed Cathal Barron who involved the on coming Conor Leavy. Kelly came looking for the pass , took on his man and drilled home for the games first goal. William Tracey corrected his sights and raised a white flag before a free for the hosts left it 0-5 to 1-10 at the interval.

Blackhall reduced the deficit from a free to open proceedings in the second half.  T J Loughran broke down the next play , found William Tracey who tore up the pitch and  found substitute Nial Darcy who finished superbly to the net.

Dunderry kept the scoreboard moving through three Nolan frees while Blackhall struck two from play and two frees.

Cathal Barron intercepted the next play and popped out to the waiting Jordan Martin who pointed from the half way line.

The hosts pointed their last free before a minor lasp in concentration from the otherwise well drilled Dunderry defence raised a green flag from a quickly taken free.

Who should put up his hand for the puc out only the  legendary Stephen Coogan in a display of primary possession gathering. He passed out to Kelly who finished off the game with a white flag.

A great team performance but still plenty to work on for Timber Leavy and his crew.
