FL Div 9: Opening round defeat for Moynalty

Moynalty 1-13 Syddan 1-16

Moynalty and Syddan began their PMC Physiotherapy Division 9 campaigns on Tuesday with a high scoring and entertaining game.

The away side started the game strongest, storming into a 6 point lead with a mixture of frees and points from open play. Moynalty had 5 different point scorers in the first half with Joe McMahon, Kyle Cussen, Conor O'Reilly and Sean Mac Mahon all finding the white flag. Half time Moynalty 0-06 Syddan 0-11

The second half saw Moynalty spring into action from the start, with far greater intensity about their play. James Lynch opened the scoring for the half from a free, before Sean Mac Mahon fired into the Syddan net to leave the minimum between the sides. Sean again found the white flag to draw matters, before James Lynch and Conor O'Reilly put Moynalty into the driving seat and 2 points up. In the final quarter however Syddan rallied, scoring 1-4 to Moynalty's solitary point, meaning the game finished with the full time score Moynalty 1-13 Syddan 1-16. Defensively Moynalty performed well with Michael Lynch and Jake Smyth in particular standing out along with Raymond Owens in the middle of the field. 

Moynalty's next outing in the competition is away to St Ultans, with throw in at 6.45pm on Tuesday 8th April.
