St Ultans 2-12 Gaeil Colmcille 3-8
St Ultans secured victory deep into injury time. Alex Casserly split the posts with the winning score less than a minute after he scored a goal to draw the sides level. A strong cross field wind made scoring difficult and the home side in particular had a lot of missed chances, Ultans were leading by a point four to three approaching half time thanks to points from play for Ruairi Buchanan, Jonny Foster, Alex Casserly and Tom Brennan. A free for the Kells side was followed by a well worked team goal for visitors, Tom Brennan steadied the ship with point from play and a Conor Finnegan free left the minimum between the sides at the break.
The sides exchanged points early in the second half a free from Finnegan and a Kells point from play. A hopeful ball into the full forward line was gathered by Ruairi Buchanan who rounded the keeper and finished into an empty net. Alex Casserly then fisted over from an acute angle however momentum switched again in favour of the visitors with two goals either side of a Buchanan point midway through the second half. Conor Finnegan pointed two free’s to bring the gap down to single score but when the Kells keeper saved a goal bound effort in injury time it looked like the visitors had done enough to secure victory. Ultans won the resultant kick-out and a ball into the full forward line made its way to Alex Casserly who finished to the net from a tight angle. The next kick-out was going to be crucial and Buchanan intercepted it and passed to Alex Casserly who kept his composure to get the decisive score.
