Navan O’Mahony’s 1-19 Moylagh 2-13
With the wind leading to a game of two halves, two-pointers from Eoin Joyce proved crucial in getting over the line to make it two wins from two in the Div 5 FL at Paddy O'Brien Park.
The opening minutes saw both sides get on the scoreboard early, with Moylagh pointing within sixty seconds and Jack Flynn responding in turn for O’Mahony’s. Moylagh took the lead again immediately, and again it was Flynn who equalised.
Two Eoin Joyce points gave O’Mahony’s the lead before the visitors scored their final score of the half in the fifteenth minute. A well taken goal from Clayton O'Sullivan was followed by a two-pointer free from Joyce.
Moylaghs best opportunity at goal was denied by an intervention from Diarmuid O Bric who cleared to safety. Jack McConnell kicked four good scores from play, split by a point from Tiarnán Black. Two two pointers, one from play and one free, from Joyce boosted the scoreboard in injury time
Navan O’Mahony’s 1-17 Moylagh 0-03
Moylagh’s determination to come back into the game was evident when they had a shot within ten seconds of the resumption, although it was wide. They kicked three points from play within the opening seven minutes, slowly chipping away at the substantial deficit they faced.
A number of scoring chances were prevented for the visitors, with interventions from Niall Devlin, O Bric, Jake Patterson, Jack Lafford, and Jack Flynn proving key in clawing out a result.
A two-pointer free from Moylagh and a goal left eight points in it, while O’Mahony’s were yet to score eighteen minutes in. This gap was reduced further with another two-pointer and a free, with five minutes remaining.
A good interception from Hugh Clarke Carolan reduced what looked to be another score for Moylagh. Almost twenty-seven minutes after the throw-in, Tiarnán Black kicked the home side’s first score of the half. It was all to play for in the closing minutes, with Moylagh finding the net again to leave three points between the sides. On the cusp of injury time, McConnell added to his earlier tally. A Moylagh free left O’Mahony’s with a three point advantage, breathing a sigh of relief at the final whistle.
