Gearóid O'Malley - St. Michaels

St. Michaels 4-12, St. Patricks 0-17

St. Michaels picked up 2 valuable points in this Division 2 league first round fixture v St. Pats played in perfect conditions in Stamullen.

The away team took full advantage of the extra space afforded by the new rules and Gearóid O'Malley had the ball in the Pats net three times in the first twenty minutes. The 3rd was from the penalty spot after Matthew Halpin was hauled down when through on goal. While St. Pats also had their chances, they were denied twice by saves from St. Michaels net minder Graham Dooner and a well timed block from corner back Cathal Walsh. St. Pats had opened the scoring when O' Malley dispatched two early frees before he netted his first two goals on 10 and 12 minutes. St. Pats got a couple of points on the board before Davy Lynch and Brian O'Reilly converted a point apiece followed by Kuba Bidzinski raising a white flag off his left foot. The home team were struggling to find scores and St. Michaels pushed their advantage before the break with a huge score from Lynch and Lee Morris tapping over. The half time score read St. Pats 0-04, St. Michaels 3-07.

St. Michaels manager Ciaran Conlon got everything right in the first half but knew that St. Pats weren't about to lie down and three unanswered points after the restart proved that. Those points were cancelled out though as Lee Morris fisted home to restore the North Meath men's advantage. O'Malley added a free bofore St. Pats really got going and started to chip away at the visitor's lead, rattling off six points without reply to leave six between the teams with 10 minutes to play.

That was as close as the home team got though as the teams traded scores before the final whistle with O'Malley flawless from frees to secure the win for St. Michaels.
